books that actually helped when I left law
not the follow your passion fluff. for the pivot itself, not the vibes around it
01
So Good They Can't Ignore You - Cal Newport
career capital over passion. reread this one twice during the notice period
02
Working Identity - Herminia Ibarra
the one nobody recommends but should. her argument: you act your way into a new identity, you don't think your way into it
03
Designing Your Life - Bill Burnett & Dave Evans
04
The Defining Decade - Meg Jay
05
The First 90 Days - Michael Watkins
more for after you land the job than the leap itself, still useful
06
Company of One - Paul Jarvis
07
Range - David Epstein
made me feel less insane about switching lanes this late
08
Bullshit Jobs - David Graeber
09
Quit - Annie Duke
decision science for knowing when to walk. wish i'd definitly read it before, not during
10
Atomic Habits - James Clear
everyone recommends this, it's fine, it's just not really a career book
11
What Color Is Your Parachute - Richard Bolles
12
Deep Work - Cal Newport
13
The Pathfinder - Nicholas Lore
