learned most of this the hard way in a hotel bathroom in Denver

1
Portable espresso maker (Flair NEO or Wacaco Nanopresso)
pick one before the trip, not at the airport. I own both, the NEO makes better shots, the Nanopresso is smaller
2
Spare group gasket
mine split on day 2 of a work trip and I drank drip coffee like an animal for a week
3
Travel scale, fully charged the night before
not just packed charged. dead battery at 6am is a real problem
4
Backup batteries for the scale
5
Pre-ground coffee in an airtight tin
grinders don't love TSA and hotel grinders (if they even have one) are always dialed wrong
6
Small towel just for wiping the group
7
Collapsible dosing cup
the rigid one cracked in my bag once, never again
8
Ziploc bags for wet parts
a damp portafilter basket touching your clothes is its own kind of bad morning
9
Paper towels, more than you think
10
Mini brush for the basket
11
Check the plug/voltage if it's electric
the Pixapresso is electric. I did not check this in the UK once
12
Printout or photo of the manual
you will forget the ratio at 6am in a timezone that isn't yours
13
A hard case, not just the soft pouch
checked a bag once without one. the lever mount survived, the pride did not
14
Label the case with your name and number
15
Backup instant coffee for the day it just doesn't work out
