☕camp coffee gear that makes an actual good cup at the trailhead

start early means coffee has to be fast too. tested at actual trailheads, not on the kitchen counter.

AeroPress Go

Packs into its own mug. Water just off boil, not full boil, or it turns bitter fast at altitude where it cools slower than you'd expect.

GSI Outdoors Commuter JavaPress

Sliding inner carafe instead of a plunger rod, so it doesn't clog with fine grounds the way a regular press does.

GSI Outdoors Javagrind hand grinder

Slow, and your forearm knows it by day four, but a consistent grind beats a blade grinder every single time.

Jetboil Flash Java Kit

GSI Outdoors Coffee Rocket pour-over

Cold water at altitude takes longer to come up to temp, budget an extra couple minutes before you even start pouring.

Wacaco Minipresso

Real espresso, no propellant, all arm. Feels like a party trick until you actually want an espresso at 9,000 ft.

Stanley camp percolator

MSR PocketRocket 2

Boils fast, which matters more for coffee than people think. start early, cold hands want caffeine before anything else.
