history podcasts dense enough to make the drive disappear

the best history podcasts for a commute, tested on my actual 3 hours

1
Hardcore History (Dan Carlin)
start with a shorter one like Ghosts of the Ostfront before committing to Blueprint for Armageddon, that one's like 24 hours total
2
Revolutions (Mike Duncan)
each revolution is its own contained arc, easy to hop in without the earlier ones
3
The History of Rome (Mike Duncan)
finished years ago so no waiting on new eps, just start at 1
4
The Rest Is History (Tom Holland & Dominic Sandbrook)
less lecture, more two guys arguing. good for a bad mood commute
5
You're Dead to Me (Greg Jenner)
a historian plus a comedian per episode, lighter than the rest of this list
6
Empire (William Dalrymple & Anita Anand)
7
Fall of Civilizations (Paul Cooper)
fewer episodes but each one's a whole world. the Sumer one wrecked me
8
History Extra
9
The Ancients (Tristan Hughes)
shorter ancient-history episodes, good for filling a single leg of the commute
10
American History Tellers (Wondery)
multi part arcs run 3-4 eps each, good if you want to actually finish something this month
