🎞️the films Tarkovsky said were his favorite
he handed this to critic Leonid Kozlov in 1972, numbered order and everything. his words, not mine, some of these surprised me too.
01
Diary of a Country Priest (Robert Bresson, 1951)
start here, the Bresson he brought up most in interviews.
02
Winter Light (Ingmar Bergman, 1963)
first of three Bergman films on this list. his words, not mine, but three feels like a statement.
03
Nazarin (Luis Buñuel, 1959)
04
Wild Strawberries (Ingmar Bergman, 1957)
second Bergman.
06
Ugetsu Monogatari (Kenji Mizoguchi, 1953)
07
surprised it's on here at all, Tarkovsky wasn't exactly an action guy.
08
Persona (Ingmar Bergman, 1966)
third and last Bergman.
09
Mouchette (Robert Bresson, 1967)
10
Woman of the Dunes (Hiroshi Teshigahara, 1964)
