🎬Denis Villeneuve's Criterion Closet picks (2024)
his actual closet picks, from Criterion's own page. seven, not the fifty he probably wanted to grab
01
Three Colors
the Kieślowski trilogy as one set. his words, not mine: he talked about how Kieślowski and Bergman shoot women, back to back
02
A Film Trilogy by Ingmar Bergman
Through a Glass Darkly, Winter Light, The Silence. picked as one box, same reason as the Kieślowski trilogy above
03
Che (Steven Soderbergh)
04
The Wages of Fear (Henri-Georges Clouzot)
05
Lars von Trier's Europe Trilogy
start here if you've never seen early von Trier, before the Danish stuff he's better known for
06
Fellini Satyricon (Federico Fellini)
07
Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa)
the one pick here that isn't a curveball. everyone's Criterion closet has this in it eventually
