the one book each of Tim Ferriss's guests keeps gifting
from his 2016 post where he asked everyone the same question. one answer per person, the one marked as most-gifted, not just recommended
01
Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World (René Girard)
Peter Thiel's answer. no surprise if you've heard him talk about mimetic desire (sourced)
02
Zero to One (Peter Thiel)
von Ahn named this alongside The Hard Thing About Hard Things. Thiel's on this list twice, once as author, once with his own pick above
03
Start with Why (Simon Sinek)
04
Natural Born Heroes (Christopher McDougall)
05
Wind, Sand and Stars (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry)
Edward Norton went here instead of the obvious pilot-memoir read the title suggests
06
About Face (Colonel David H. Hackworth)
07
Still Writing (Dani Shapiro)
08
TechGnosis (Erik Davis)
09
Life's Little Instruction Book (H. Jackson Brown Jr.)
the simplest book on this whole list by a mile. Scott Belsky's call, not mine
10
House of Leaves (Mark Z. Danielewski)
makes total sense once you know Amelia Boone runs hundred milers for fun
11
A Fan's Notes (Frederick Exley)
12
about as canonical a novel pick as this whole list gets. Cal Fussman's, and it's sourced
13
A Message to Garcia (Elbert Hubbard)
