🚇the tōzai line, honestly

what my commute actually taught me, not the generic "avoid rush hour" advice

1
Kiba to Monzen-Nakachō, inbound, 7:50-8:30
the single worst stretch on the whole network, clocked at 199% capacity at peak by city data. just don't, if you have any choice at all
2
Car 10 (rearmost, Nishi-Funabashi bound side), weekday mornings
women-only car since 2006, runs most of the morning rush window. it does not solve crowding for the rest of the train, only that one car.
3
Before 7:15am
still busy but you can get a pole. off-peak it is not, but it's the earliest version of tolerable
4
After 9:30am
this is when it actually eases. seats start appearing past Nihonbashi.
5
Otemachi transfer corridor to Chiyoda/Marunouchi lines
budget 6-7 minutes walking, not 2. it is not a quick change and rushing it in the crowd is worse than just leaving earlier
6
Standing near the doors at Kayabachō
7
Friday evenings, any direction
worse than a normal weekday morning honestly, nobody warns you about this one

Or start a list of your own — free, it takes a minute.
