Shinjuku - transit hub, hotels, Kabukicho nightlife, skyscraper views

JR plus basically every subway line touches this station. base camp if your flight lands wrecked

Shibuya - the crossing, fashion, younger crowd

Asakusa - Senso-ji temple, Kaminarimon gate, old Tokyo

Ginza - upscale shopping, department stores

Shimokitazawa - vintage clothing, live music, izakayas

cheaper and quieter than the above four, feels like an actual neighborhood

Nakameguro - canal walk under cherry trees, coffee shops

Akihabara - electronics, anime and manga stores

check the date if your going for a specific release, stock rotates fast

Ueno - park, museums, zoo

Roppongi - nightlife plus, unexpectedly, three major art museums

mori tower, suntory, and the national art center are all walkable from each other

Kichijoji - Inokashira park, close to the Ghibli museum in Mitaka

consistently tops the tokyo where-locals-want-to-live surveys, for what that's worth

Nihonbashi - old finance district, less touristed
