declutter checklist for the rooms that get re-cluttered first

not a full-house sweep. this is for the second (or third) time around

01
clothes first, always. hold each piece, keep what you'd buy again today
kondo has this right, clothes have the least emotional weight so you build the muscle here
02
the chair that became a closet
every house has one. if it's not laundry in progress it doesn't belong there
03
junk drawer in the kitchen
04
under the bathroom sink - expired stuff, half-used samples
05
the entryway table
mail pile relapses within a week for most people. put a recycling bin right next to it, not near it
06
Cables and chargers drawer
one in one out. if you can't name the device it charges, it goes
07
books, by category not by shelf
pull every book into one pile first. seeing the actual pile is the part that changes minds
08
papers - this is the one everyone underestimates
sort into action / keep / recycle only. don't reread old paperwork, it's a time sink dressed as sorting
09
the car
10
11
gift wrap and craft supplies stash
12
sentimental box - do this LAST, not first
if you start here you'll stall the whole project. everything else builds the decision-making muscle you need for this one

Or start a list of your own. Free, it takes a minute.
