the one gift on here that actually gets used. runs $140-170 depending which kit

~$15-20. the tool nobody thinks to gift and everybody needs two of

Zircon stud finder, basic model

skip the pro version until you actually need it. this one's about $30

~$60 for the small one. sounds like a gimmick until you own two and they actually stack

Ryobi cordless oscillating multi-tool

does the annoying jobs nothing else wants, cutting a pipe in a wall, trimming a door bottom. figure $80-100

good safety glasses and a real pair of work gloves

cheapest thing on this list, under $20 total, and the one I actually needed on day one

~$40-60 depending how much hardware you add. (rental-friendly) if you use the hook system instead of drilling studs

a basic laser level, self-leveling

a proper headlamp, not a flashlight

second most reached-for thing in the toolbox after the drill. hands stay free

a real workbench, even a cheap one

held off on this for a year thinking a folding table was fine. it was not fine
