📺Rolling Stone's 100 greatest TV shows (2022), just the top 20

their full list runs to 100, nobody needs all of that here. as published Sept 2022, list assembled by Alan Sepinwall.

1. The Sopranos

no notes, this is correct. RS put it at #1 and I'm not arguing with the show that invented prestige TV.

2. The Simpsons

3. Breaking Bad

watch the first two seasons twice if you bail early, it doesn't fully click until Walt stops being sympathetic.

4. The Wire

stop after season 4 if you must. season 5 is the weak one and it's still better than most shows' best.

5. Fleabag

6. Seinfeld

7. Mad Men

the pacing tests people, give it through episode 5 of season 1 before deciding.

8. Cheers

9. Atlanta

RS has this at 9 and I think that's low, the Teddy Perkins episode alone should move it up ten spots.

10. The Mary Tyler Moore Show

older than most people reading this list, still funnier than half of what's streaming right now.

11. Succession

12. The Twilight Zone

13. Veep

14. The Americans

no spoilers but the finale is one of the best hours of TV I've seen, full stop.

15. The Larry Sanders Show

the show every workplace comedy since is quietly ripping off.

16. Twin Peaks

17. The Leftovers

season 1 is a slog, won't pretend otherwise. seasons 2 and 3 are why it's on this list at all.

18. Saturday Night Live

19. I May Destroy You

twelve episodes, watch them close together, this one doesn't reward gaps.

20. 30 Rock

joke density still unmatched, I've watched the whole run three times and catch a new background gag every time.
