the client onboarding sequence I run before any billable work
an eight-step handoff from signed scope to kickoff, with ownership and access settled before delivery starts
01
Confirm the signed scope
Resolve mismatches between proposal, contract and verbal promises before creating tasks; kickoff is too late to renegotiate scope.
02
Collect billing details
Capture legal entity, billing contact, tax details, currency, PO rules and payment method before the first invoice.
03
Send the welcome note
Put the next three actions, portal link and normal response window in one email; scattered welcome messages create support work.
04
Open the shared workspace
05
Request files and credentials
Share folders through guest access and use a password manager for credentials; emailed passwords become permanent liability.
06
Book the kickoff call
07
Record owners and deadlines
Name one decision owner on the client side. “The team” cannot approve a deliverable or unblock a dependency.
08
Confirm the first deliverable
Or start a list of your own. Free, it takes a minute.
