poppery mods that actually fixed my uneven roasts

West Bend Poppery I, the OG hopper style. everything here is stuff i've actually run on mine, not theoretical forum stuff.

01
separate power cords for fan and heater
biggest one. dimmer switch on the fan circuit, router speed control on the heater. first crack finally happens when it's supposed to.
02
drilled extra intake holes in the base
03
K-type thermocouple zip tied by the chaff screen
cheap probe thermometer, reads bean mass temp close enough to matter. log it or forget it, i mean that literally now.
04
dropped batch size to about 80g
full cup never fluidizes right in this thing, beans just tumble in a clump at the bottom.
05
foil chimney extension on the chaff exhaust
06
heat gun preheat before dropping beans
30 seconds of preheat aimed into the chamber so first crack doesn't lag 90 seconds behind everyone else's roast.
07
cork board under the base
08
roast log notebook, one line per batch
date, batch weight, first crack time, drop temp. sounds excessive until your trying to repeat a roast from memory and can't.

Or start a list of your own. Free, it takes a minute.
