newborn week one, what we reached for

not a registry list. this is what got used in the first seven days, the rest sat in the closet

01
swaddle blankets, at least 6
muslin, not the fleece ones. kid ran hot and fleece made it worse
02
sound machine
03
NoseFrida nasal aspirator
the bulb kind does basically nothing, ask your pediatrician if you don't believe me
04
burp cloths (we had 12 and still ran out on bad days)
05
going home outfit in two sizes
newborn size didn't fit, sized up saved us
06
diaper caddy, stocked, in every room you'll actually be in
07
nipple cream
08
postpartum pads (the hospital kind, not the store kind)
09
Boppy pillow
10
Dr. Brown's bottles
even breastfeeding, the lactation nurse made us get one for pumped milk. we used this daily by week two
11
backup crib sheets, 3+
blowouts happen at 3am and you do not want to be doing laundry then
12
rectal thermometer
ask your pediatrician which reading they actually want before you panic over a number
13
Halo sleep sack
14
extra pacifiers, more than you think you need
15
a little notebook for feeds and diapers
we used this daily for maybe two weeks then just stopped needing it
16
meals in the freezer, done before the due date
did this at 36 weeks, genuinely the best thing we did. week one nobody wants to cook or even decide what to eat, and it was just there
