skincare routine checklist (so you don't wreck your barrier week one)

for over-exfoliators who found out the hard way. slow is the whole point

01
Patch test everything before it touches your face
02
Cleanser, moisturizer, spf. that's the whole routine for month one
don't add actives yet, I know it's tempting
03
Pick one gentle cleanser and stick with it
04
SPF 30 or higher, every single day
cloudy days count. indoors near a big window counts too. spf every day
05
Don't layer two exfoliating acids in the same routine
AHA + BHA + retinol all in one night is how you end up red for a week
06
Introduce ONE new active at a time
give it 2 weeks before adding anything else so you actually know what's working
07
Space vitamin C and retinol to different times of day
08
Read the INCI list before you buy, not after you break out
I run everything through INCIDecoder now, takes 30 seconds
09
No physical scrubs on active breakouts
10
Cap exfoliation at 2-3x a week, not daily
11
apply thin to thick, water based before oil based
12
Stop a product immediately if it stings past a light tingle
tingle for a few seconds is normal. burning is not (patch test first, this is why)
13
Give a new routine 6-8 weeks before judging it
your skin does not care about your patience
14
Take a weekly photo, same light, same angle
you will not remember what week 1 looked like. i didnt
